Channel 16 (Bengali: চ্যানেল সিক্সটিন), named in reference to Bangladesh’s Victory Day on 16 December, was a groundbreaking Bengali-language satellite and cable television channel dedicated exclusively to music. Owned and operated by Mr. K G Muhit, it marked a historic milestone as Bangladesh’s first and only music-focused TV channel.
The channel received permission to broadcast via a Singaporean satellite and officially launched its transmission on 16 December 2011, aligning symbolically with the nation’s most celebrated day.
At the helm was K G Muhit, the visionary Managing Director, who had petitioned the government back in 2008 to allow him to operate a privately owned downlinked satellite television channel. His initiative paved the way for a new era in Bangladeshi entertainment, offering viewers a dedicated platform for music and cultural expression
